因为本身是英语专业的学生走过来，所以需要先明确一个区别：
阅读也分为两种：精读和泛读。
精读：把每个单词的意思，每个句子的结构都了解透彻，整体意思都能非常清楚地吸收。
泛读：了解大概意思，只要不偏离严重，都是允许的。
您问相不相信“每天坚持阅读一篇短文，英语水平绝对提上去”？
我的答案是：如果您能每天坚持精读一篇短文，您的词汇绝对会积累得越来越多，您的阅读能力会得到一定的提升；如果您能每天坚持泛读一篇短文，那么您的阅读速度会提升，但是不一定能够保证您的词汇能有所增加，因为泛读只要了解大意即可（除非泛读之后您能继续把不懂的单词做一个记录、查询积累）。
阅读是一个学习英语比较好的方法。您如果能潜心去坚持做这么一件事情，您的英语水平（阅读、词汇量、写作方面都会有一定的提升）。但是，英语口语则不是这一种方法就能够提升的。口语只能苦练出来（口语练习的环境条件等因素都会影响效果，详情您可以看我之前对于口语问题方面的解答。）

因为英语短文里面不只是有单词和语法的成分，也有很多很棒的表达和词句搭配。英语的阅读素来是英语学习的“半边天”，有了这“半边天”，用处甚广。如果你已经开始了，希望你能把短文阅读坚持下去，持之以恒，必有硕果。
至于英语的“另半边天”，是听和说。英语阅读能力是基础能力，听说则更侧重于晋升。但是毕竟大家生活的语言环境是以汉语为主，我们并没有太多机会与外国人进行深入的英语交流（工作需要除外）。至于听，机会更是少之又少。现在社会我们所接触的影视作品中大多来自于国内，其中也有部分韩流文化，而欧美作品对国内影视剧场的冲击有限。不能否认迪士尼公司每上映一部新作都会席卷中国市场，《007》、《碟中谍》等连载剧目也很火，但是谈及他们对于英语听力提升的影响，实在有限，电影本身的呈现时长也控制在两小时左右而已。
总而言之，不要小看英语短文阅读背后的能量。坚持下去，一定就有收获。
