参考这只球队成立的背景，我认为 遛马是完全符合原意的。
pace有步伐的意思，于是大陆翻译就按照名词加er的原则翻译成步行者。实际上pacer是用步子测量的人和遛蹄的马的意思。
步行者队，这支NBA联盟“开国元老”球队的名字是由一群投资商决定的。
印第安纳律师理查德·汀克汉姆这样解释这个名字，遛马一方面代表了这个州轻驾马车赛马竞技的传统，另一方面也代表了印第500赛车的传统。
据汀克汉姆回忆，当时商讨名字的时候遛马队的名字一下就决定了，并不是争论的要点。当时是为了应该叫印第安纳遛马还是印第安纳波利斯遛马争论了很久。
1976年，当球队加入NBA联盟时，他们沿用了这个名字。
