松脂球腐烂的速度非常慢，这是因为松脂一般含20%左右的萜烃和75%左右的树脂酸，脂肪类的物质一般都不易分解，耐腐蚀性较强。
松脂球比较浓稠，掉在地上会粘上了那些泥沙，这样裹着，松脂球就会定型，之后被晒干，因为海水升上来，陆地沉下去，松脂球外面的沙子就会被冲干净，所以，它不会腐烂。
松脂，中药名。为松科植物马尾松PinusmassonianaLamb.、油松PinustabulaeformisCarr.或其同属植物木材中的油树脂。马尾松分布于陕西、江苏、安徽、浙江、江西、福建、台湾、河南、湖北、湖南、广东、广西、四川、贵州、云南等地。油松分布于东北、华北、西北及河南、山东、江苏等地。赤松分布于黑龙江、吉林、辽宁、山东、江苏。南京一带有栽培。黑松分布于辽宁、山东、江苏等地；武汉、南京、上海、杭州等地多有栽培。具有祛风，杀虫之功效。常用于疥疮，皮癣。
