　　您好！茂利”是由20世纪初，英国人在香港教中国人建筑而来。当时英式建筑有好多大型窗户和阳台，例如：港督府。这些窗户和阳台的主要支柱，英文叫mullion，当时的mullion全部都是使用很粗大的木柱，但只有立著的才叫mullion；横的叫transom。

　　当时香港人又不懂英文，听见那些洋人指著一大根木杆猛叫“mullion”，渐渐就学著叫“茂利”，意思是一根根木棍或木柱，就像傻愣愣站著的人，后来变成用来形容一些愚钝之人。

　　不过，有些俗语专家的解释是：茂利原是“谬戾”的变音，荒谬、狼戾合而为一的人，也就是“奸险小人”。PS：来源于soso
